PNEUMONIA VACCINES

If you are 65 years of age or older, it is recommended that you receive a sequence of pneumococcal vaccines to help protect against pneumonia and its complications. If you have never received the PCV13 (Prevnar 13) vaccine in your lifetime, ask your pharmacist about receiving this vaccine. A year after receiving this vaccine, you will then receive the PPSV23 (Pneumovax 23) vaccine to protect against other strains. If you have received the Pneumovax 23 vaccine, wait at least 2 months before receiving the Prevnar 13 vaccine. Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure which vaccine you need and when you need it. We are glad to answer any questions!
